"As a body of believers, our purpose is to obediently follow Jesus Christ by passionately loving God and people as energized by the Holy Spirit." (Matthew 22:37-39)
Jesus summarized all the commandments into two: Loving God and Loving People. However, we need to realize that we need each other to fulfill the call to obediently follow Jesus Christ. We are a church because God wants us to be something together, and represent him with our unified diversity. Unity within the body is critical in defining who we are as a church (Romans 15:5,6). Diversity within the body is critical in achieving our purpose as a church. Yet we strive to create one body that loves each other and serves each other (1 Corinthians 12:4-6), so that we are capable of furthering the kingdom of God inside and outside the church as energized by the Holy Spirit.
